The Kiwi sense of humour is like, you move to NZ and get a job and the boss sends you to the store to buy some striped paint, and you get there and the shop person nods and says \u201chere you go\u201d and the paint doesn\u2019t say striped on it but you guess it must be right,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
so you take it back and the boss says \u201cnow paint that house\u201d and you do and it doesn\u2019t come out striped so you ask the boss about it and he says \u201cah the stripes come out after a bit of sun\u201d, then like a month of sun later you\u2019re walking past the house and there are no stripes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and you mention it to the boss and they say \u201cI can\u2019t believe someone painted over those beautiful stripes\u201d and you go back and you knock on the door of the house and you ask the owner if she painted over the striped paint,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and she gives you a nod and says \u201cyeah, when the stripes came out in the sun they looked different to how i imagined, tell your boss it wasn\u2019t their fault\u201d so you go back and tell the boss and they just raise their eyebrows,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and then you fall in love with a Kiwi and move back to London and have a kid and get married and get older and then one night you pause netflix and you tell them this story and you say \u201cbut there\u2019s no such thing as striped paint, is there?\u201d,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and they laugh and say \u201coh honey\u201d and you think, at last, I\u2019m not crazy, finally the truth, and then they say \u201coh honey, you painted the stripes vertical instead of horizontal and everyone was too polite to tell you\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
