Once, whenever three of us gathered, we would say:
a: So here we all are then.
b: No beer.
c: No money.
a: No chicks.
all, unison: Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
(pause)
(all look around)
b: So here we all are then…

I can’t put my finger on when exactly this changed.
But it did.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.

  1. Know exactly what you mean. Was at a party this weekend and something about the group had changed. Admittedly the group in question are not my best friends and I did have some peconceived ideas about what the party would be like. It had definitely changed, but had shades of the past,

  2. What exactly had changed? (More money? More beer? Someone had sex reassignment surgery?) Nah, seriously: I don’t have a reference point for this, since I’ve never been in continuous contact with any social group for more than a few years at a time: e.g. have been pretty much isolated in Japan for the last 7 years.

  3. Well, it’s all changed. Whenever I gather with folk, there is an abundance of beer, money and women. (Hell, the folk in question are often as not women.)
    Once, it was some guys with no cash and no way to get alcohol. Now it’s a mixed-gender buch with no resource concerns at all.
    I think the tipping point was when we let girls in the club. They got their girl germs everywhere and suddenly…
