Despite having a long list of things to do, I just couldn’t clear my head yesterday enough to do any of them. So I went to the DVD rack and watched a Doctor Who story I’ve never seen before: “The Sea Devils” starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. It was exactly the right sort of thing to be watching when home sick, because it didn’t make the slightest bit of sense but had lots of running around and some amusing stunts.
This, after all, is the reason why I’ve been slowly building up a collection of Doctor Who videos and DVDs – for sick days. Ahhh, lovely.
Anyway. Feeling much better today so going to try and do things. THINGS.

I was THIS close to getting out the Sea Devils / Silurians box set from the library the other day. THIS close I tells you!
I can hook you up boss! The Silurians is actually really good – that first Pertwee season was very well-done indeed.
Yep: if you love computerised kazoo music, you won’t want to miss this!
I envy your having “stories you haven’t seen”. I think I’ve got a few “oh, I’ve only watched that 3 times”…
Yes, I need to get out more.
did you know Jon Pertwee was Worzel Gummidge….that’s enough to make you want to get out of your sick bed and move….ahhhh the good old days!
Ivan – yeah man, the score on this was something else! I thought I hallucinated it but apparently it was meant to sound like that…
Andrew – chunks of late Pertwee are still unseen by me. Some of the extant Hartnell stuff, too. Otherwise I’ve covered off most of it…
Anna – heck yes. I’m still weirded out by the fact that after a few series of UK Worzel, TVNZ decided to bring Pertwee out here and make another two series set in New Zealand. Weirdness!
Half way through “The Invasion” myself. For an 8-parter it’s quite good.
dritchie – that was my purchase at the Whitcoull’s 25% off sale. Last time I saw it, it was one of those 18th-generation scratchy VHS copies that circulated through NZ fandom in the early 90s. But what am I saying – what would YOU know about Doctor Who fandom in NZ circa 1992? IT IS A MYSTERY.
Also, Wendy Padbury was hot.
You’ll have to make sure to pick up “The War Games” when it comes out here if you want some more of Wendy Padbury being adorable.
Plus it has about 3-week’s worth of special features on the DVD.
Wendy Padbury had a memorable role in Blood On Satan’s Claw, a rather good early ’70s British horror movie made in the wake of Witchfinder General.
