Ellis on the Global Frequency

A few days back I talked about the growing buzz around uncommissioned TV show ‘Global Frequency’, the pilot of which is circulating on the net:
“And I think it’s not a coincidence that Global Frequency is the instance that opens new doors. Everyone who cares about the world can look in it and see hope.”
Creator Warren Ellis, yesterday on his mailing list:
“If you like the concept behind the show, then, you
know, take part in some kind of political or cultural
activism. Because there are more important things
for a group of smart, passionate people to worry about
than a TV show.”

  1. Good on him. He is totally right. I remember reading a friends blog where a bunch of trekkies raised 3 million dollars to get thier program to have another season and, like my friend, thought: “What the..!” in true Rove style.
I mean there are more important things in the world that *any* TV series no matter how good it is. Arguably “Global Frequency” is good, but even if it’s the best TV show ever in the whole of time, it’s still not worth people spending their energy to get it going. It would be far better for them to do like Ellis says and pour those energies into something that actually might have an impact on the world, increase the ollective good or something.
They should volunteer in a soup kitchen, or get involved in grass roots politics.
But I suspect that those things would be seen as too inconvienecing and that moaning on the internet is far easier.

  2. I can think of one other but he was even less likely. Dude, it’s fantastic to know you’re still alive! I had totally been convinced you were eaten by a shark or something.

  3. I can vouch for James actually. Still existing. Was it the weekend of the Wellington 7s this year? Anyway, it was about 2am Sunday morning, bumped into him on the railway tracks between Moera and Woburn Station. Nice to hear you made it home J. That was a long night. The World Wide Web strikes again.

  4. Oh yeah, still alive. No getting eaten by sharks or run over by trains for me. Unlike that other poor girl, Brad. That was a long night.
I’ve been keeping track of you on the interweb, Morgue. Nice to have friends with decent blogs.
It won’t interest you guys, but someone else who knows me might care, I’m back in wellington for some of the last half of July. Going skiing as well. I’ll give my regards to Lambton Quay for you kids.
