Sing This Song Linky

Comic Sans defends itself.

Ten minutes of Arnie quips:

Smarthistory, a very neat interactive textbook thingamy on the subject of art history. Inspirational.

Via the Grauniad, a handy Kiwi-friendly world cup wallchart, explaining what this game that doesn’t involve an oval ball is all about. Amusingly out of date – the NZ score for each game was pre-filled as 0.

A family photograph themselves over 30 years.

Via Evie, giant packing-tape cobwebs.

The cliffhanger ending of the cancelled Little Orphan Annie newspaper strip. It is waaaay crazier than you will expect.

Former host of From The Morgue, David Ritchie, talks up phones-as-platform and related stuff, in this short presentation from the last Ignite Wellington session. Isn’t he a dapper chap?

Via hottieperm, and somewhere else I can’t remember, Bad Postcards

The worst book covers in Scif-Fi and Fantasy

And finally… a music video that you will never forget: Cathy Don’t Go

(Once again via Dangerous Minds. Sooo much good stuff there.)

  1. oh no oh no! I need to go to the supermarket…today!!! No one told me the devil was barcoding me!
    🙁
I love those book covers. So so bad.

  2. Ack, that Comic Sans piece!

    from Achewood:

Roast Beef: Oh and theres a humor essay by a writer from that McSweeney’s whatever it is. It’s kind of self aware and overwrought but it’s better than most of the ads.

Molly: Ha ha! Did you ever notice how McSweeney’s kind of approaches humor with a lab coat and a pair of tweezers?

Roast Beef: Hee hee yeah they really are uncomfortable around the stuff.

Molly: It’s like they don’t know where they belong given all the writing that’s come before them, so they just rip off old New Yorker pieces!

Roast Beef: I know it’s like they’re playing among the ruins of a once-great literary culture that is no longer relevant and struggles for justification!

  3. I know this is WAY after the fact, but since I only just discovered / survived the “Cathy Don’t Go” music video. I just wanted to say: you do know that it’s based on a literal interpretation of Revelations 13 onwards? (The Second Beast, namely the Beast of the Earth lording it over commerce such that “… none my buy or sell unless they have a mark on their forehead or in their right hand” – KJV, hence the shenannigans at the checkout with the beast refusing the folding money and forcing the hapless woman custome to complete her purchase with by scanning her hand)? About 15 years ago, there was a news item around the development of a sub-cutaneous debit chip that couldbe read by bar scanners, which caused fundamentalist Christians world-wide to freak, thanks to Revelations 13 (and if stuff in Revelations appears to be “coming true”, that equals The End Times, the last chance to be faithful, imminent Rapture and impending Armageddon, etc).

Yes? No? Only me that cares? 🙂 My minor point is that there’s at least SOME basis for it, rather than the whole thing being COMPLETELY random. That’s all I want to say, really 🙂 Thanks!
